8 crew members of Greek tanker abducted in Cameroon released 

The eight crew-members of the Greek-flagged tanker “Happy Lady”, among them five Greek nationals, who had been abducted by pirates in an attack near the coast of Cameroon on New Year’s Eve, were released on Wednesday, Greek shipping ministry announced.

The tanker was attacked while anchored two nautical miles from Limboh port in Cameroon and a Greek mechanic was injured during the incident.

The vessel had 28 crew members on board. The abducted were five Greeks, a Ukrainian, and two from the Philippines.




“The coordinated efforts bore fruit,” Greek Shipping and Island Policy Minister Ioannis Plakiotakis commented in an e-mailed press release.

According to the announcement, the Greek nationals were in good health in a Cameroon hospital for general medical examinations, after which they are to immediately return to Greece.
