Thursday 28th November, saw the start of construction works of a new national assembly building, more than 7 months after the agreement to implement this project was signed between the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (Minepat) and the political officer in charge of affairs of the embassy of China in Cameroon.

The late launch of this project is due, according to Theodore Datouo deputy chairman of the monitoring committee and delegated project supervisor was the resettlement of people from the sites on which the new buildings will be built.
The three plots in question are, in particular, the current site of the National Assembly, those housing on both sides the residence of the President of the Economic and Social Council, and the camp of the mobile squadron No. 1 of the National Gendarmerie.
“As regards to the home of the President of the Economic and Social Council, his new residence has not yet been found by the State. Measures are being taken by the high authorities of the Republic for the residence of the President of the Economic and Social Council. We can not ask him to release without having first made arrangements to arrange the places where he will settle, “says the vice president of the National Assembly.
As a reminder, this project is a donation from the People’s Republic of China, which will last 42 months, at the cost of 54 billion CFA francs.
