A change in central Africa has been lauded by in environmental protection. This was at the third edition of a sub-regional workshop on climate change dope “COP in my city” that opens in Yaounde today under the theme “time for action, youths and climate change finance.
Preparations hare hitting up Ahead of the 25th edition of the climate summit also known as Cope 25 to hold in less than two months in Santiago Chili under the theme “time for action“. In view of this, associations and leaders of environmental groups from member states of the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC) are meeting Yaounde for three days of brainstorming.
Women and youths’ groups from parts of the country are the key focus at the meeting. The president of the Cameroon association of green youths Mary Tamufon Kom explains the concept of COP in our City.
We are trying to mobilise the youths. And we know the urgency of this matter. The youths are the future but it is now that everything starts…Without the women and youths, I doubt what the future of the planet would be. So, we have to focus on them. They have the energy. They are at the centre of all the key challenging issues that we have in the climate change issues. They have the solutions. They know what to do.
That’s why we are organizing “COP In My City” is a kind of decentralization of the big COP that you know, Conference of parties. That is why our organization HEBC and the regional network which is based in the ten countries is mobilizing the youths around the issue of climate change…”
Participants are tackling a variety of topics of interest with the goal of and coming out with a convincing and competitive road map to be presented during COP 25.
The project manager at the Conrad Ardenau Foundation, Marie Stella Ntwente, told journalists that
“we will train them on negotiation, we will train them on how to build projects. We will let them know the importance to participate in this different challenge in the world.”
Maxime Nzita, of the Congo Basin Forest told journalists that the conference would empower young people with the capacity to demonstrate their capabilities. Within this workshop participants will be drilled on how to draw up projects that could bid successfully at COP 25 and bring back financial investments in energy and security for example as well as contribute to project concepts.
The regional workshop which falls in line with the climate policy and energy security program for sub Saharan Africa will also focus on the training of young climate negotiators and the nomination of a climate ambassadors to champion the concept of sustainable development.
