It was around 2 pm, when the security forces stationed in front of Maurice Kamto’s house left, Mr. Kamto immediately left his home and went to the Omnisports stadium where his rally was to be held. he was blocked about 100m from the stadium.
When activists and supporters recognized his car, they came out of the corners where they were hiding because they had had been harassed since morning.
Maurice Kamto dropped the windscreen of his car to greet them. The central commissioner who coordinated the operations advances towards him and told him he could not hold his meeting and he was forces to turn back.
That was when more people came out, surrounded his car and started singing just shortly after security forces had blocked his car.
Security forces were heard asking for instructions over the phone from alleged senior officials of the police and the gendarmerie.
Shortly, riot trucks arrived and spread tear gas on the MRC militants. The MRC activists and supporters who surrounded Kamto’s car fled into the streets of nearby neighborhoods. They were chased and many were arrested.
According to current information, about fifty people have been arrested. Investigations are on going in police stations and gendarmerie brigades.
