As public health officials step up campaigns to prevent cholera epidemic from crippling its way into the North West region, nothing has been done, with the heaps of garbage, abandoned in the city of Bamenda, which is poses serious threats of an eminent Cholera outbreak.
During an interview with the Government Delegate of the Bamenda City Council, Vincent NjiNdumu, alerted to The Voice, an eminent risk of cholera epidemic in the city of Bamenda.
The State Landlord of Bamenda I, II and III Subdivisions, revealed that due to the alarming situation, tabled to him by Hysacam officials in Bamenda, he put-up a letter to the Mezam Senior Divisional Officer to actually express the difficulties the population of the Bamenda City Council area, is going through with the eminent risk of epidemic because of garbage that has not been collected for over a month in the city.
On their part, an official of Hysacam-Bamenda, revealed that their major challenges is the gubernatorial order preventing movement from 6am to 6pm, the Mondays ghost towns, coupled with the damaged bridge preventing them from emptying the garbage at the landfill in Bafut.
“The present gubernatorial order, the ten-day order of no activities, the damaged bridge at the road leading to the land-fill, where our trucks usually empties the wastes, is now our major challenge”, the source from Hysacam stated.
“BuyamSellams”, operating varied trades at the Bamenda Food-Market, where heaps of unattended wastes, have been pilled, closed to 2metres high, covering a land surface of 30metres, for closed to two-months, told The Voice, on Saturday October 27, 2018, that Hysacam, has decided to relocate to the West Region, due to security challenges, a claim which the waste management company, has refuted.
The source confided to The Voice, that the latest move comes following threats posed by the Ambazonia Fighters, who have been causing cease-less havoc in the region.
